Factual news website research

During our lesson with  Sam we had to pick a news article and then fill in a five W's chart about where each question is shown in the article.

Five W's Chart

What happened?

A three-year-old girl who died on her first day at nursery after getting her neck caught in a rope was not found for 20 minutes, a court has been told.

Who was there?

Lydia Bishop was not breathing when nursery worker Sophee Redhead found her at York College's nursery outdoor play area

Why did it happen?

Manslaughter by gross negligence.

When did it happen?

Not specified date therefore this suggests the date cannot be revealed because of either personal reasons or because the court has ordered it to not be revealed.

Where did it happen?

Below is an inverted pyramid which shows the three stages of a news article. I have picked out a story and copied in the correct information into each  segment.

The Lead

From the 2nd of January 2014 onwards 2014 Greater Anglia have increased the train fare prices by over 2.8%. Different destinations vary. The prices have risen so that the train company can accommodate all their costs throughout the year. This has happened throughout all the UK.

The Body

This causes much controversy every year as commuters become infuriated in the constant raise which dips into their pay packets.  It has been averaged out that the increase will put some commuters travel up to £5000 a year. More annoyance is caused amongst students as they are made to pay an adults price when they are still in education. This is an issue which regularly causes students to not pay full price.

The Tail

With the constant demand for more and more expensive fares how will commuters cope? It is only so long until people start speaking out. Transport Minister Stephen Hammond told the BBC: "Fares are rising but at the lowest they've ever done in the last decade and that's because this government recognises the concerns that people have about rail fares.
